The trend to sport the most hideous and tacky holiday sweater began a few years ago and led to folks hosting Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties. Fellow Vermonter Anne Marie Blackman, from nearby Killington, Vt., noticed the trend in 2008 while researching online holiday marketing ideas. Blackman, also known as "The Tailor of Tacky," crafted some of her now famous "up-cycled ugly" sweaters and watched them quickly sell out. She launched a Web site to show her ugly sweater line and to drive customers to her eBay store.
