Blog We Are Number One!
Ann Clark Cookie Cutters recently featured the Number One as its Shape of the Week. The number one seems like an easy shape to form into a cookie cutter if it was only a straight vertical line, but our toolmaker at Ann Clark Cookie Cutters made a die that features a little razzle dazzle with a serif tip and a block base. No easy task. But that's what we do at Vermont-based Ann Clark Cookie Cutters, America's number one manufacturer of cookie cutters. We can make more than 2,000 shapes and we stock some 600 shapes in our warehouse, including numbers and letters.
Back to our featured Number One cookie cutter. The mark made in the Western world to indicate a single unit of something apparently derived from ancient India, which accounts for the vertical line with a serif tip, and the Romans, whose influence provided the block for a base.
Many phrases come to mind when I think of the number one: We're number one, one more word out of you and…, one day at a time, one step at a time, one more time, one more river, looking out for number one, one more little taste, and of course astronaut Neil Armstrong's famous line before stepping onto the moon, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Interestingly enough, when I researched the phrase spoken by Armstrong I found a 2013 article in the Los Angeles Times that says the quote was supposed to be, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind," according to the book Moonshot by Brian Floca.
