Prepare the following items:
6 Tipless Piping Bags
Lemon Yellow Food Coloring
Sky Blue Food Coloring
Super Black Food Coloring
Super Red Food Coloring(you can also use a candy instead--see step 3)
Spatulas & pint glasses to fill your piping bags

Step 1: Bake and cool cookies before decorating. Make sure cookies are fully cooled. If they are warm, the icing will run off of them. Make royal icing. Learn how to mix different consistencies of royal icing here>>

Prepare the following icing colors:
Piping Consistency:
Yellow
Blue
Gray
Black
White
Red(you can also use a candy instead--see step 3)
Flood Consistency:
Yellow
Blue
Gray
Step 2: Using piping consistency blue icing, outline the windows of the school bus, starting with the windshield. Be sure to pipe vertical lines to delineate between the individual windows.

Step 3: Next, using yellow piping consistency icing, outline the main chassis of the school bus. While the yellow icing is still wet, adhere red candy for the headlight. Alternatively, you can use red royal icing to pipe the headlight. Alternatively, you can use a red candy or sprinkle to make the headlight.
Use gray piping consistency icing to outline the lower part of the school bus, near the wheels.

Step 4: Using flood consistency yellow icing, flood the yellow part of the bus. Let dry for 30-60 minutes, until crusting over.
Once dry, begin flooding the windows. Flood every other window, as this gives the icing time to dry-therefore, it won't run.

Step 5: Continue filling the windows until they're all filled. You should see a pillowing effect in the windows, where the different windows are separated where you applied your blue piping consistency.
Next, flood the gray underside of the bus.

Step 6: Using black piping consistency icing, pipe the wheels of the bus.

Step 7: While the black icing is still wet, pipe small gray dots in the center of each wheel.

Step 8: Now, it's time to add detail.
Use yellow piping consistency icing to outline the windows, bottom part, and body of the bus. Also pipe between the windows and pipe a line through the gray section of the bus. This adds the finishing touches to make your bus look a bit more professional.

That's it! These are a great gift for the teacher or school bus driver who makes an impact on kids' lives.
